Alice the Great Horned Owl is the owl behind the festival.  She is the one and only live animal at the Houston Nature Center, and as her popularity grew, the Festival of Owls was started as a fun way to celebrate her "hatch-day" while getting people excited about owls.  Things got out of hand from there and we wound up with an international event....
