UPDATE 4/21/22: Cancelled for 2022 due to avian influenza
Our outdoor owl photo sessions are back in 2022! We anticipate having a Snowy Owl, a Barn Owl, a Barred Owl, and an Eastern Screech-Owl, all provided by the Illinois Raptor Center, available to photograph. Since owls can get sick or have snits just like people, we cannot guarantee 100% every one of these owls will be present. We reserve the right to substitute another species if needed.
These photo sessions are very controlled. Owls will be on natural-looking perches outdoors, with one handler per bird. Up to 12 photographers (but no more than 12) can register for each time slot (8:00 AM, 9:00 AM or 10:00 AM). Three photographers will be grouped together and will rotate as a group from owl to owl every 10 minutes. No guests or pets are allowed in the area where owls are being photographed. Photographers must carry their own gear in the photography area.
Photographers should plan to arrive and check in at least 15 minutes before their time slot begins.
Sunday, May 1, 2022
Meet at the Trailhead Park parking lot: 215 W Plum St
Pre-registration required. No guests or observers allowed.
$100 if registered by April 24, $150 April 25 or later
